A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms the issue is fixed in updated kernel packages. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability was found and fixed in the Linux kernel's idpf driver related to RSS LUT initialization. The issue occurs when ethtool operations like rxhash on/off are performed before the network interface is brought up, causing a kernel crash. The fix moves RSS LUT initialization earlier to ensure it is always available and defers hardware programming until the interface is up. This vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions and has a medium severity rating with no confidentiality or integrity impact but causes denial of service via kernel crash.
