A patch is available and has been included in Linux kernel updates. Users should apply the official security updates provided by their Linux distribution, such as the Ubuntu USN-8492-1 advisory. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hugetlb subsystem was fixed by correcting the hugetlb_pmd_shared() function. The flaw caused shared PMD tables to not be detected properly, leading to incorrect accounting of shared pages as private and improper setting of exclusive flags. This patch also addresses a related performance regression involving excessive inter-processor interrupts during process fork and exit. The fix has been backported to stable kernel versions and is included in security updates.
