AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix reorders SCTP command processing to prevent sending authenticated data without a valid shared key. Updating to the fixed kernel versions or applying vendor-provided updates is recommended. No additional mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A null pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel SCTP protocol implementation was resolved by reordering command processing to prevent sending authenticated data with a null shared key. The flaw occurs when SCTP-AUTH key initialization fails during INIT_ACK processing, potentially allowing a data chunk with authentication enabled but no key to be transmitted, causing a kernel crash. The fix moves the SCTP_CMD_ASSOC_SHKEY command earlier in the sequence to ensure key setup failure prevents data transmission and allows retransmission of INIT messages.
