AI-suggested
A patch is available and has been released by the vendor. Users should update their Linux kernel to versions 6.8.0-1061.64~22.04.1 or later as provided by their distribution's official updates. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. Due to an ABI change, third-party kernel modules must be recompiled and reinstalled. Follow the vendor's update instructions carefully to ensure full remediation.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's irqchip/sifive-plic component caused frozen interrupts due to the PLIC ignoring interrupt completion messages for disabled interrupts. This was because the PLIC does not verify if the completion ID matches the last claim ID for the target, silently ignoring completion messages for interrupts that are disabled but still being handled. The issue was fixed by enabling the interrupt before sending the completion message if it was disabled. This vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1061.64~22.04.1 and related builds. A patch is available and included in recent Linux kernel updates.
