A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix adds proper state validation in rose_connect() to prevent the NULL pointer dereference. Users should update to a patched kernel version as provided by their vendor. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the Linux kernel's net/rose subsystem was fixed. The flaw occurs when rose_connect() is called a second time while a connection attempt is still in progress, leading to an inconsistent socket state and a subsequent NULL pointer dereference during socket closure. This issue can cause a denial of service by crashing the kernel. A patch adding a missing state check to rose_connect() has been released to prevent this condition.
