What to do
AI-suggested
- Immediately isolate Tenda W20E routers from untrusted networks, especially disabling any remote management interfaces accessible from the internet.
- Implement strict network segmentation to limit access to affected devices only to trusted internal networks.
- Monitor network traffic for unusual patterns or attempts to exploit the vulnerability, such as malformed packets targeting the getMibPrefix function.
- Employ intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS) with custom signatures to detect exploitation attempts once available.
- Regularly audit and inventory network devices to identify all instances of the affected router model.
- Contact Tenda support or vendors for any upcoming patches or firmware updates addressing this vulnerability and apply them promptly once released.
- As a temporary workaround, consider replacing vulnerable devices with alternative hardware if feasible.
- Educate network administrators about the vulnerability and ensure they follow best practices for device hardening and monitoring.
- Restrict physical and logical access to the routers to prevent local exploitation or configuration changes.
- Maintain up-to-date backups of router configurations to enable rapid recovery if devices are compromised.
Description
An issue was discovered in Tenda W20E V4.0br_V15.11.0.6. Attackers may exploit the vulnerability by controlling the value of `nptr`. When this value is passed into the `getMibPrefix` function and concatenated using `sprintf` without proper size validation, it could lead to a buffer overflow vulnerability.
