Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CVE-2026-24193) involves an out-of-bounds write in NVIDIA GeForce display drivers on Windows and Linux platforms. An attacker with local access and low privileges could leverage this flaw to write outside the intended memory bounds, potentially leading to serious impacts including denial of service, escalation of privileges, information disclosure, data tampering, and arbitrary code execution. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.8, reflecting high impact and relatively low attack complexity requiring local privileges and no user interaction. Affected versions include all NVIDIA GeForce drivers prior to version 580.159.03. There is no vendor advisory or patch information currently available to confirm remediation status.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to denial of service, privilege escalation, information disclosure, data tampering, and arbitrary code execution on affected systems. The vulnerability requires local access with low privileges and does not require user interaction. The high CVSS score (7.8) indicates significant potential impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the NVIDIA vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict local access to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to NVIDIA driver usage.
