What to do

AI-suggested

To mitigate CVE-2026-26417, organizations should immediately audit and restrict access to the password reset functionality, ensuring it is only accessible to authorized users with proper privileges. Implement strict server-side authorization checks to verify that the requesting user is permitted to reset the target account's password. Employ multi-factor authentication (MFA) to reduce the risk of compromised credentials being used for exploitation. Monitor logs for unusual password reset requests, especially those targeting multiple or high-privilege accounts. If possible, disable the vulnerable password reset feature until a vendor patch is available. Engage with Tata Consultancy Services for official patches or updates and apply them promptly once released. Additionally, conduct user awareness training to recognize suspicious account activities and enforce strong password policies to limit the impact of compromised accounts.

Description

A broken access control vulnerability in the password reset functionality of Tata Consultancy Services Cognix Recon Client v3.0 allows authenticated users to reset passwords of arbitrary user accounts via crafted requests.
