AI-suggested

Until an official fix is released, avoid processing files with untrusted or potentially malicious filenames using affected versions of textract. Consider implementing external controls such as sandboxing or restricting execution permissions for processes running textract to limit potential damage.

Description

The textract library through version 2.5.0 contains a critical OS command injection vulnerability (CVE-2026-26831). This flaw arises because the file path parameter in multiple extractors is passed directly to child_process.exec() without proper sanitization. This affects several modules including doc.js, rtf.js, dxf.js, images.js, and util.
