A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue has been fixed. Systems should be updated to the patched kernel versions provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required once the patch is applied.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel IPv6 implementation allows a local attacker with CAP_NET_RAW capability to cause a kernel panic (denial of service) by triggering an integer overflow in the ip6_datagram_send_ctl() function. This occurs due to a 16-bit length accumulator wrapping when processing multiple IPV6_DSTOPTS control messages, leading to insufficient buffer headroom and a subsequent skb_under_panic() call. The issue affects certain Linux kernel versions and requires local privileges or user namespaces with CAP_NET_RAW. A patch is available to fix this flaw.
