A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel as indicated by the fixed commit versions. Users and administrators should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes these fixes to remediate the vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
CVE-2026-31464 is a high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ibmvfc driver. It involves an out-of-bounds (OOB) memory access caused by improper validation of a num_written value returned by a malicious or compromised VIO server. This value can exceed the allocated buffer size, leading to kernel memory leakage via crafted MAD responses. The issue is fixed by clamping num_written to the maximum allowed targets before use.
