A patch is available and has been released by the vendor. Users should update to the fixed Linux kernel versions, including 5.15.0-186.196 or later, or apply the specific patched versions listed in the advisory. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the official updates.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's s390 syscall dispatch table was resolved by adding a Spectre boundary to prevent out-of-bounds access. The issue involved the s390 syscall number being directly controlled by userspace without proper speculative execution boundary checks, potentially allowing speculative execution past the syscall function pointer tables. This flaw was fixed in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-186.196 and later. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 5.5 and does not impact confidentiality or integrity but affects availability. No known exploits are reported in the wild. The vendor has released patches addressing this and other kernel security issues.
