An official patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The Ubuntu security advisory USN-8488-1 includes this fix. Systems running affected versions should be updated to the patched kernel releases to prevent crashes and potential exploitation.
Description
A use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's bcache subsystem (cached_dev.sb_bio) has been resolved. The flaw occurs when the device is stopped while writing to the superblock, leading to access of freed memory and potential kernel crashes. This issue was identified through crash reports involving the libceph component. The vulnerability has been fixed by ensuring that sb_write completes before cached_dev is freed.
