AI-suggested

A patch is available and has been released in updated Linux kernel packages. Users should apply the vendor-provided kernel updates and reboot their systems to ensure the fix is applied. Due to an ABI change, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be required. Follow the vendor advisory instructions for updating to the fixed kernel versions.

Description

A heap out-of-bounds write vulnerability was discovered and resolved in the Linux kernel's USB/IP subsystem. The issue occurs when a USB/IP client receives a RET_SUBMIT response with a manipulated number_of_packets value larger than originally submitted, causing out-of-bounds writes in urb->iso_frame_desc[]. This flaw was confirmed by KASAN testing on kernel version 7.0.0-rc5. The vulnerability has a high CVSS score of 9.8 and affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to specific patched releases. A patch is available and included in updated Linux kernel packages. Users are advised to update and reboot their systems to apply the fix.
