AI-suggested
A fix is available and has been incorporated in Linux kernel versions 5.15.0-1063.63~20.04.1 and later. Users should update their systems to these or newer kernel versions to remediate the vulnerability. After updating, a system reboot is required to apply the changes. Due to an ABI change, recompilation and reinstallation of third-party kernel modules may be necessary. No additional mitigations are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's stmmac network driver was fixed that involved an integer underflow in the chain mode implementation. This flaw caused a loop to iterate excessively, leading to out-of-bounds DMA mappings on systems without IOMMU, potentially exposing kernel memory and risking memory corruption. The issue was resolved by clamping buffer length calculations to prevent underflow. Multiple Linux kernel versions are affected, and fixes are available in newer kernel releases.
