Description
CVE-2026-31700 is a time-of-check to time-of-use (TOCTOU) race condition vulnerability in the Linux kernel's tpacket_snd() function when PACKET_VNET_HDR is enabled. The vulnerability arises because the vnet_hdr structure is read directly from a memory-mapped TX ring buffer shared with userspace, allowing a concurrent userspace thread to modify it between validation and use, bypassing safety checks. This flaw was fixed by copying the vnet_hdr to a stack-local variable before validation and use, aligning with the approach used elsewhere in the kernel.
