A patch is available that adds hardware detection to the dt2815 driver to prevent crashes. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8567-1 confirms the availability of this fix. No additional mitigation actions are required beyond applying the update.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's comedi dt2815 driver could cause a kernel crash when the driver is attached to I/O ports without actual hardware present. This occurs because outb() operations may trigger page faults if no hardware exists at the specified port. The issue is resolved by adding hardware detection that reads the status register before write operations and fails the attach if no hardware is detected.
