What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that changes the variable type from u8 to u32 to prevent the overflow. Users and administrators should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this correction. Since this is a kernel-level vulnerability, updating to the patched kernel version is the recommended mitigation.

Description

A heap buffer overflow vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel's wilc1000 wifi driver due to an 8-bit unsigned integer overflow in the SSID scan buffer size calculation. The variable used to accumulate the total length of SSIDs to scan is too small to hold the sum, causing an allocation smaller than needed and subsequent buffer overflow during memory copy. This issue has been fixed by changing the variable type to 32-bit to prevent overflow.
