What to do
AI-suggested
The vulnerability has been resolved in the Linux kernel by adding a guard check (is_x86_event) before the vulnerable container_of operation. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix.
Description
A high-severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel's perf subsystem for x86 architectures involves a potential out-of-bounds memory read caused by an improper container_of operation in intel_pmu_set_acr_caused_constr. This occurs when auto counter reload includes a group of events with software events not belonging to the x86_hybrid_pmu. The issue is mitigated by adding a guard check to ensure the event is an x86 event before proceeding.
