A fix is available that adds a .may_split callback to deny VMA splitting in the privcmd_vm_ops structure. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that address XSA-487 / CVE-2026-31787 to remediate this vulnerability.

Description

A double free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's xen/privcmd component was resolved by adding a .may_split callback to deny VMA splitting. The issue occurred because the privcmd_vm_ops structure lacked .may_split and .open callbacks, causing two VMAs to share the same pages array and leading to double free when both VMAs were destroyed. This vulnerability is tracked as CVE-2026-31787 and was addressed in the Linux kernel.
