Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-31939 is a path traversal vulnerability (CWE-22) in Chamilo LMS before version 1.11.38. The vulnerability exists in main/exercise/savescores.php where the 'test' parameter from user input ($_REQUEST['test']) is used directly in filesystem path operations without validation or canonicalization. This allows an attacker with low privileges to perform arbitrary file deletion, impacting integrity and availability. The vulnerability is addressed in Chamilo LMS version 1.11.38.

Potential Impact

An attacker with low privileges can exploit this vulnerability to delete arbitrary files on the server running Chamilo LMS, potentially leading to denial of service or data loss. The CVSS 3.1 score of 8.3 reflects high impact on integrity and availability, with network attack vector and no user interaction required.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Chamilo LMS to version 1.11.38 or later, where this path traversal vulnerability has been fixed. No other official remediation or temporary fixes are documented. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor fix in version 1.11.38.
