Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in Grafana OSS allows a user with Editor role and write access to a dashboard to overwrite dashboards they do not own, thereby gaining admin privileges on those dashboards. The CVSS score is 7.1, indicating a high severity level with network attack vector, low attack complexity, and no user interaction required. The vulnerability impacts confidentiality and integrity but not availability. Multiple versions from 8.5.0 through 13.0.1 are affected. No vendor advisory or patch information is currently available, and the product is not a cloud service.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Editor privileges and write access to a dashboard can escalate their privileges to admin on that dashboard, potentially allowing unauthorized changes and increased control over dashboard configurations. This impacts the integrity and confidentiality of the affected dashboards but does not affect availability. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict Editor role assignments and write access to dashboards to trusted users only to reduce risk of privilege escalation.
