Published: 05/13/2026 (05/13/2026, 19:28:37 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Grafana
Product: Grafana OSS

Description

Using the $__timeGroup macro, one can achieve an OOM by overloading the server. This requires a SQL datasource. If the server is set up to auto-restart, the impact is minimal or non-existent, as the attack can take upwards of half an hour to crash the server.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in Grafana OSS involves the misuse of the $__timeGroup macro when used with a SQL datasource, which can lead to an out-of-memory condition on the server. The attack requires low privileges and no user interaction, and it can cause a denial of service by crashing the server after sustained resource exhaustion. The vulnerability is tracked as CWE-400 (Uncontrolled Resource Consumption). No known exploits are reported in the wild, and no official remediation or patch has been published as of the data provided.

Potential Impact

The primary impact is availability degradation due to resource exhaustion (out-of-memory) leading to server crashes. Confidentiality and integrity are not affected. The attack requires low privileges but no user interaction. The prolonged time needed to trigger the crash reduces the immediacy of the threat. Servers configured to auto-restart mitigate the impact by restoring service automatically.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or remediation is currently available. Servers should be monitored for resource usage when using the $__timeGroup macro with SQL datasources. Configuring the server to auto-restart can minimize downtime caused by this vulnerability. Check the vendor advisory regularly for updates on patches or official fixes.
