Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-22) allows a remote attacker who has obtained a user account on Video Station to perform path traversal attacks. By exploiting this, the attacker can read arbitrary files on the system, which may include sensitive or system-critical data. The issue affects versions from 5.8.x up to but not including 5.8.8. The vendor has released a fix in version 5.8.8.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation enables an attacker with user-level privileges to read files outside the intended scope, potentially exposing sensitive information or system data. This could lead to information disclosure and further compromise depending on the data accessed.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Video Station to version 5.8.8 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.
