VulnerabilityCVE-2026-34080cvecve-2026-34080cwe-1289
Published: Tue Apr 07 2026 (04/07/2026, 20:57:57 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: flatpak
Product: xdg-dbus-proxy

Description

xdg-dbus-proxy is a filtering proxy for D-Bus connections. Prior to 0.1.7, a policy parser vulnerability allows bypassing eavesdrop restrictions. The proxy checks for eavesdrop=true in policy rules but fails to handle eavesdrop ='true' (with a space before the equals sign) and similar cases. Clients can intercept D-Bus messages they should not have access to. This vulnerability is fixed in 0.1.7.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in xdg-dbus-proxy versions before 0.1.7 involves improper validation of unsafe equivalence in input, specifically in the parsing of policy rules for the 'eavesdrop' attribute. The proxy checks for 'eavesdrop=true' but does not correctly handle variants with spaces before the equals sign, allowing bypass of eavesdrop restrictions. This enables unauthorized interception of D-Bus messages. The issue is classified under CWE-1289 and has a CVSS 4.0 score of 6.8, indicating medium severity. The vulnerability is resolved in version 0.1.7.

Potential Impact

Clients using vulnerable versions of xdg-dbus-proxy can intercept D-Bus messages that should be restricted by eavesdrop policy rules. This compromises message confidentiality but does not affect message integrity or availability. There are no known exploits in the wild as of the published date.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade xdg-dbus-proxy to version 0.1.7 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. Since no official patch links or vendor advisories are provided, verify the upgrade from the official flatpak sources. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the advisory, but the description states the issue is fixed in 0.1.7, indicating an official fix is available.
