CVE-2026-35578: CWE-601: URL Redirection to Untrusted Site ('Open Redirect') in ChurchCRM CRM
ChurchCRM is an open-source church management system. Prior to 7.0.0, it was possible in many places across the ChurchCRM application to create a link that, when visited by an authenticated user, would redirect them to any URL chosen by an attacker if they clicked 'Cancel' button on the page. For this write-up the DonatedItemEditor.php will be used as an example, however wherever all instances of 'linkBack' should be assessed. This vulnerability is fixed in 7.0.0.
AI Analysis
Technical Summary
ChurchCRM versions before 7.0.0 contain a URL redirection vulnerability (CWE-601) where the application improperly validates the 'linkBack' parameter used in navigation. An attacker can craft a link that, when visited by an authenticated user, causes the user to be redirected to any arbitrary URL upon clicking the 'Cancel' button. This behavior is present in multiple locations across the application, with DonatedItemEditor.php provided as an example. The vulnerability was addressed and fixed in ChurchCRM version 7.0.0.
Potential Impact
An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to redirect authenticated users to malicious external sites, potentially facilitating phishing or social engineering attacks. However, the vulnerability requires the user to be authenticated and to click the 'Cancel' button on a crafted link, limiting the attack surface. There are no known exploits in the wild as of the published date.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade ChurchCRM to version 7.0.0 or later, where this vulnerability has been fixed. Since the vendor advisory indicates the issue is resolved in 7.0.0, applying this official fix is the recommended remediation. No additional temporary mitigations are specified.
