Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-36163 is an HTML injection vulnerability affecting LiquidFiles version 4.2.7. Authenticated attackers can exploit this issue by uploading malicious HTML files to the file view endpoint. When a victim interacts with these files, arbitrary JavaScript executes in the victim's browser context, potentially leading to cross-site scripting (XSS) impacts. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-79 and has a CVSS 3.1 base score of 5.4, indicating medium severity. There is no known public exploit and no vendor-provided patch or official remediation at this time.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary JavaScript in the context of another user's browser, which can lead to information disclosure or session hijacking. The impact is limited to users who interact with the crafted HTML file. There is no indication of system-level compromise or denial of service.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict file uploads to trusted users and avoid interacting with untrusted HTML files. Monitor vendor channels for updates regarding patches or mitigations.
