Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-41470 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in Live Networks, Inc.'s LIVE555 software before version 2026.04.22. The vulnerability arises from improper validation of RTSP session commands, enabling attackers to reuse valid Session tokens obtained from unauthenticated connections. This allows unauthorized PLAY and TEARDOWN commands to be executed on a second TCP connection without authentication. The impact includes potential server crashes caused by virtual function call errors and disruption of active streaming sessions by terminating victim sessions. The CVSS 4.0 base score is 8.2, indicating high severity. There is no vendor advisory or patch information available at this time.

Potential Impact

An attacker who obtains a valid Session token can bypass authorization controls and issue RTSP commands that disrupt service. This can lead to server crashes or termination of active streaming sessions, impacting availability and stability of the LIVE555 service. The vulnerability does not require user interaction or privileges and can be exploited remotely over the network.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, consider restricting access to RTSP services to trusted networks or implementing network-level controls to limit exposure. Monitor for unusual RTSP session activity that may indicate exploitation attempts.
