Technical Analysis

Redash's Query Results query runner improperly handles param_query_N_{key=value} parameters by passing attacker-controlled values directly to replace_query_parameters() for raw substitution into SQL queries. This bypasses the ParameterizedQuery schema validation and omits the is_safe permission check, enabling SQL injection. An authenticated user with view-only access to both the Query Results data source and the referenced data source can exploit this to execute arbitrary SQL with the referenced data source's privileges. The vulnerability is resolved in Redash version 26.9.0.

Potential Impact

An attacker with authenticated view-only access to the relevant data sources can perform SQL injection, potentially leading to unauthorized data access or manipulation with the privileges of the referenced data source. This elevates the risk of data compromise despite limited user permissions.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Redash to version 26.9.0 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation or temporary workaround is indicated in the provided data.
