AI-suggested

Since the vulnerability affects ProFTPD versions before 1.3.9a and specifically version 1.3.7b is affected, upgrading to version 1.3.9a or later is recommended once available. Until then, administrators should consider disabling mod_sql or avoid logging USER requests with expansions like %U if possible to reduce exposure. Monitor vendor advisories for official fixes.

Description

CVE-2026-42167 is a high-severity SQL Injection vulnerability in the mod_sql module of ProFTPD version 1.3.7b. It allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted usernames when USER requests are logged with expansions like %U and the SQL backend supports commands such as COPY TO PROGRAM. This vulnerability has public exploit code available but no confirmed exploitation in the wild.
