Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: 1Panel-dev
Product: MaxKB

Description

MaxKB versions 2. 8. 0 and earlier contain a broken access control vulnerability in the OSS file service URL fetch API endpoint. The vulnerability arises because the endpoint uses the application_id from the URL path without verifying that the requester owns the application, allowing unauthorized operations under other applications' policies. This issue is fixed in version 2. 8. 1. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 5. 3 and does not require user interaction or privileges beyond low-level access.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-42337 is a broken access control vulnerability (CWE-862) affecting MaxKB, an open-source AI assistant for enterprise. Versions prior to 2.8.1 have an insecure OSS file service URL fetch API (chat/api/oss/get_url) that fails to validate ownership of the application_id parameter in the URL path. This allows attackers with low privileges to perform operations under other applications' policies, potentially leading to unauthorized access or actions. The vulnerability is resolved in MaxKB version 2.8.1.

Potential Impact

Attackers with low privileges can exploit this vulnerability to perform unauthorized operations under other applications' policies by manipulating the application_id parameter. This could lead to unauthorized access or actions within the affected MaxKB environment. There are no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade MaxKB to version 2.8.1 or later, where this broken access control vulnerability is fixed. Since the vendor has released a fixed version, applying this official update is the recommended remediation. Patch status is confirmed by the vendor's versioning information.
