Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-42337 is a broken access control vulnerability (CWE-862) affecting MaxKB, an open-source AI assistant for enterprise. Versions prior to 2.8.1 do not properly validate the ownership of the application_id parameter in the OSS file service URL fetch API endpoint (chat/api/oss/get_url). This allows an attacker with limited privileges to perform unauthorized operations under the context of other applications' policies. The vulnerability is fixed in version 2.8.1.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability could allow an attacker with limited privileges to bypass access controls and perform actions or retrieve data associated with other applications, potentially leading to unauthorized access or manipulation of resources. The CVSS 4.0 score of 5.3 indicates a medium impact level.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade MaxKB to version 2.8.1 or later, where this broken access control vulnerability is fixed. Since the vendor has released a fixed version, applying this official update is the recommended remediation. No additional mitigation guidance is provided or required beyond updating.
