A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue has been fixed in updated kernel releases. Applying the official kernel updates will mitigate this vulnerability. No additional action is required beyond updating to a fixed kernel version.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel NFC pn533 driver was resolved that involved unbounded growth of the UART receive buffer. The pn532_receive_buf() function appended every incoming byte to the buffer without resetting it until a complete frame was recognized, allowing malformed UART traffic to cause the buffer to grow excessively. This could lead to denial of service by exhausting kernel memory. The issue affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 5.15.0-186.196 and specific listed versions. A patch is available to drop partial frames once the buffer is full, preventing buffer overflows.
