A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix clears the dma->tx_running flag safely after terminating the DMA transaction, preventing the deadlock. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions as provided by their Linux distribution vendors. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's serial 8250 driver caused a TX deadlock when using DMA. The issue arises because the dmaengine_terminate_async function does not guarantee execution of the __dma_tx_complete callback, which clears the dma->tx_running flag. If the callback does not run, the flag remains set, preventing new TX DMA transactions from being scheduled. The fix ensures dma->tx_running is cleared after terminating the DMA transaction while holding the UART port lock to serialize access.
