A fix is available and should be applied by updating to the patched Linux kernel versions as provided by the vendor. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8567-1 confirms that this and other Linux kernel vulnerabilities have been addressed. Users should apply the official kernel updates from their distribution to remediate this issue.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel netfilter nfnetlink_log subsystem caused uninitialized nfgenmsg data to be leaked in NLMSG_DONE messages when batching multiple NFLOG messages. This results in leaking four bytes of stale kernel heap data to userspace. The issue has been fixed by properly initializing the nfgenmsg payload in the NLMSG_DONE terminator. The vulnerability affects specific Linux kernel versions and has a medium severity rating with a CVSS score of 5.5.
