What to do

AI-suggested

A fix is available that adds NULL pointer checks in the affected helper functions to prevent dereferencing NULL vlan group pointers. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the fix.

Description

CVE-2026-43100 is a medium severity vulnerability in the Linux kernel bridge component. It involves a NULL pointer dereference in local VLAN-0 forwarding database (FDB) helper functions when VLAN filtering is disabled. This can cause a kernel crash (general protection fault) during bridge configuration operations involving specific boolean options. The issue arises because the code does not check for NULL vlan group pointers before dereferencing them. The vulnerability has been resolved by adding appropriate NULL checks in the affected helper functions.
