A fix is available and has been applied in the Linux kernel to skip ATS invalidation for inaccessible PCIe devices without scalable mode. Users should update to a patched kernel version that includes the commits referenced in the description. Since this is a kernel-level fix, upgrading the kernel to a version including these changes is the recommended remediation.
Description
CVE-2026-43161 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's iommu/vt-d subsystem affecting certain PCIe devices without scalable mode enabled. It can cause the host system to hard-lock when a PCIe endpoint's link drops unexpectedly, such as by surprise removal or link fault, especially when ATS is enabled and the device is passed through to userspace. The issue arises because the Intel IOMMU waits indefinitely for an ATS invalidation that cannot complete. The vulnerability has been resolved by adding checks to skip ATS invalidation for inaccessible devices, preventing the hard-lock condition.
