A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this issue is fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their Linux kernel to the fixed versions provided by their distribution. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's XFS filesystem attribute leaf freemap handling could lead to data loss. The issue involves improper management of zero-length freemap entries, which can cause overlapping entries and allocation of xattr namevalue entries on top of the existing array. This bug has existed for a long time and was fixed by zeroing out the base of any zero-size freemap entry to prevent confusion. The vulnerability is addressed in a Linux kernel update.
