A patch is available that fixes this vulnerability by improving TLB shootdown during page migration and updating memory ordering semantics. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. Disabling memory compaction or using global TLB invalidation can mitigate the issue temporarily, but applying the patch is recommended for a complete fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel affecting Alpha architecture systems was resolved that caused sporadic user-space crashes and heap corruption during memory compaction. The root cause was insufficient TLB shootdown during page migration, leading to stale data or instruction translations. The fix introduces a migration-specific helper to properly invalidate MM context and TLBs during migration. This issue could cause crashes such as SIGSEGV and allocator failures on both uniprocessor and SMP Alpha systems.
