A patch is available and has been incorporated into official Linux kernel updates. Users should apply the latest security updates from their Linux distribution vendors to remediate this issue. The Ubuntu advisory USN-8492-1 confirms the fix is included in updated kernel packages. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A medium severity vulnerability (CVE-2026-43316) in the Linux kernel's media subsystem (solo6x10 driver) involved improper bounds checking of the chip_id value, which could lead to undefined behavior due to out-of-bounds bit shifting. The issue was identified through Clang's undefined behavior sanitizer and resolved by adding explicit bounds checks and using unsigned values for shifts. This fix prevents runtime instrumentation and undefined behavior. The vulnerability affects specific Linux kernel versions and has been addressed in official updates.
