A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu in security notice USN-8567-1. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates provided by their distribution to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the vendor-provided fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem allowed direct access to nullable PTR_TO_BUF pointers without proper null checks, causing kernel NULL dereference on stop callbacks. This issue has been resolved by adding a guard to prevent dereferencing nullable pointers. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions including various 4.15.x, 5.0.x, 5.3.x, and versions prior to 5.15.0-186.196. A patch is available and has been released by Ubuntu as part of their security updates.
