A patch is available that replaces the WARN_ON() call with an informational message and returns an error code to handle the condition properly. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix to affected versions. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ice driver related to PTP (Precision Time Protocol) handling in VFIO passthrough setups has been resolved. The issue occurs when only a Physical Function (PF) without the source timer is passed through, causing the controlling PF pointer to be uninitialized and triggering a WARN_ON() condition. This has been fixed by replacing the warning with an informational message and returning an error code to handle the expected behavior gracefully.
