An official fix is available and should be applied by updating to patched Linux kernel versions as per the vendor advisory. The Ubuntu security notice USN-8567-1 confirms that this and other kernel vulnerabilities have been addressed. Users should upgrade affected kernel versions to receive the fix.
Description
A stack buffer overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel's hwmon subsystem (pmbus/q54sj108a2 driver) was fixed. The issue was caused by incorrect argument order and insufficient buffer size in the q54sj108a2_debugfs_read function, leading to a stack overflow when converting I2C read data to hex format. This flaw could cause memory corruption and incorrect output. The vulnerability affects specific Linux kernel versions and has been addressed in updated releases.
