An official fix is available and should be applied. The fix adds proper handling in the xhci_irq() function to halt the controller when a Host Controller Error is detected, preventing the interrupt storm. Full recovery from HCE requires additional reset and reinitialization steps not covered by this patch. Users should update to patched Linux kernel versions as provided by their vendor. No further action is required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's xHCI USB controller driver causes an interrupt storm when a Host Controller Error (HCE) occurs during UAS storage device plug/unplug events on Android devices. The interrupt storm results from the interrupt not being cleared properly, leading to severe system-level faults. The issue is addressed by adding a call to halt the controller in the interrupt handler when HCE is detected, preventing the interrupt storm. However, full recovery from HCE requires resetting and reinitializing the controller, which is not covered by this fix.
