Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-4431 is a critical authorization bypass vulnerability in the Easy Post Submission plugin for WordPress (versions up to 2.3.0). The vulnerability arises because the AJAX action rbsm_submit_post is registered for unauthenticated users without any capability checks when a postId parameter is provided. This allows unauthenticated attackers to modify various fields of arbitrary posts, including title, content, excerpt, categories, tags, and post status, effectively enabling unauthorized content modification and unpublishing.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can modify the content and metadata of any post on a vulnerable WordPress site using this plugin. This includes changing the post title, content, excerpt, categories, tags, and setting the post status to draft, which can unpublish the post. The integrity and availability of site content can be severely impacted, leading to potential content defacement or disruption of published information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is released, restrict or disable the Easy Post Submission plugin if possible. Monitor for updates from the vendor or plugin repository and apply any official patches promptly once available.
