Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: themeruby
Product: Easy Post Submission – Frontend Posting, Guest Publishing & Submit Content for WordPress

Description

The Easy Post Submission plugin for WordPress up to version 2.3.0 has a critical vulnerability due to missing authorization checks in its AJAX handler. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to modify arbitrary posts, including changing titles, content, categories, tags, and unpublishing posts by setting their status to draft. The vulnerability arises because the AJAX action 'rbsm_submit_post' is accessible without authentication and lacks capability checks when a 'postId' parameter is provided.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-4431 is a missing authorization vulnerability (CWE-862) in the Easy Post Submission plugin for WordPress. The plugin registers the AJAX action 'rbsm_submit_post' for unauthenticated users via 'wp_ajax_nopriv_rbsm_submit_post' without verifying user capabilities when a 'postId' parameter is supplied. This allows unauthenticated attackers to modify post data arbitrarily, including title, content, excerpt, categories, tags, and post status (e.g., setting to draft). All versions up to and including 2.3.0 are affected.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can modify the content and metadata of arbitrary posts on a vulnerable WordPress site. This includes changing post titles, content, excerpts, categories, tags, and unpublishing posts by changing their status to draft. Such unauthorized modifications can disrupt website content integrity and availability. The CVSS score of 9.1 reflects a critical severity with high impact on integrity and availability without requiring privileges or user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the AJAX endpoint if possible or disable the Easy Post Submission plugin to prevent exploitation.
