CVE-2026-45047: CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in xddxdd bird-lg-go

VulnerabilityCVE-2026-45047cvecve-2026-45047cwe-400
Published: Wed May 27 2026 (05/27/2026, 16:37:36 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: xddxdd
Product: bird-lg-go

Description

bird-lg-go is a BIRD looking glass in Go. Prior to 1.4.5, the apiHandler (and similarly webHandlerTelegramBot) processes user-provided JSON payloads by directly using json.NewDecoder(r.Body).Decode(&request) without restricting the maximum read size. An unauthenticated remote attacker can stream an extremely large, endless JSON payload (e.g., several Gigabytes of padding) over a single TCP connection. Because Go's JSON decoder attempts to allocate memory for the entire parsed structure, this rapidly exhausts the host's physical RAM or container limits, leading to an unrecoverable fatal error: runtime: out of memory. This vulnerability is fixed in 1.4.5.

Technical Analysis

bird-lg-go, a BIRD looking glass implemented in Go, versions before 1.4.5 have a vulnerability where the apiHandler and webHandlerTelegramBot decode user JSON payloads without limiting the maximum read size. The Go JSON decoder attempts to allocate memory for the entire input, so an attacker can send an extremely large or endless JSON payload to exhaust system memory, causing a fatal runtime out-of-memory error and service crash. This is classified as CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption. The vulnerability allows unauthenticated remote attackers to cause a denial-of-service by crashing the application. The vulnerability is resolved in version 1.4.5.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability enables unauthenticated remote attackers to cause a denial-of-service by sending large or endless JSON payloads that exhaust the host's physical RAM or container memory limits. This results in an unrecoverable fatal runtime out-of-memory error, crashing the bird-lg-go service and impacting availability. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity according to the CVSS vector.

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is fixed in bird-lg-go version 1.4.5. Users should upgrade to version 1.4.5 or later to remediate the issue. Patch status is not explicitly stated beyond this fix version, so confirm with the vendor advisory for the latest remediation guidance. Until upgraded, consider limiting the size of JSON payloads at the network or application layer to mitigate exploitation.
