Published: 09/28/2026 (09/28/2026, 14:29:41 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Extegrity
Product: Exam4

Description

Exam4 is affected by a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the com.extegrity.LogTool privileged helper, which communicates with the application via XPC. The [ConsoleLogHelper copyConsoleIntoFileFromStartDate:] method executes a syslog command using attacker-controlled parameters without proper sanitization, enabling command injection. Successful exploitation allows a local attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges through LaunchSynchronous.

Technical Analysis

Exam4's com.extegrity.LogTool privileged helper communicates with the application via XPC. The method ConsoleLogHelper copyConsoleIntoFileFromStartDate: executes a syslog command using parameters that are not properly sanitized, leading to OS command injection (CWE-78). This flaw allows a local attacker to escalate privileges to root by injecting arbitrary commands executed through LaunchSynchronous.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation results in local privilege escalation, granting the attacker root-level command execution capabilities. This can compromise the entire system's confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict local access to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to the LogTool helper.
