AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix enforces an upper bound on the PID array size and pre-computes reply buffer sizes to prevent overflow and kernel panic. Systems with unprivileged user namespaces enabled should ensure the kernel is updated to a version including this fix. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's openvswitch component allows a CAP_NET_ADMIN user to cause a kernel panic by overflowing the reply buffer when setting upcall PID arrays. This occurs because the vport netlink reply helpers allocate a fixed-size buffer but accept an unbounded PID array size, leading to a BUG_ON condition and kernel crash. The issue is exploitable on systems with unprivileged user namespaces enabled. A patch is available that limits the PID array size to the number of CPUs and pre-computes the worst-case reply size to prevent overflow.
