AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix adds a scheduling point in the retry loop to prevent the livelock. Systems running affected kernel versions should upgrade to the fixed versions as provided by their vendor. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A livelock vulnerability in the Linux kernel quota subsystem was fixed. The issue occurs when a filesystem is frozen and quotactl_block() enters a retry loop waiting for the filesystem to thaw, causing a hang and 100% CPU usage on the quota process due to a livelock between quotactl and freeze_super. This happens specifically on kernels with preemption disabled. The fix adds a scheduling point (cond_resched()) to the retry loop to allow RCU quiescent states and prevent the livelock.
