AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this and several other Linux kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed in updated kernel releases. Users should update their Linux kernel packages to the fixed versions as per their distribution's security notices.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's libceph component could lead to a null pointer dereference in the ceph_handle_auth_reply() function. This occurs when a CEPH_MSG_AUTH_REPLY message contains zero values for both protocol and result, causing improper handling of the authentication protocol state and resulting in a null pointer dereference. The issue has been fixed by changing the protocol check logic to correctly identify bad authentication protocols.
