AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory (Ubuntu USN-8488-1) confirms that this vulnerability is fixed in updated kernel releases. Users should update their Linux kernel to a version that includes this fix to mitigate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated or required by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Qualcomm IPC Router (QRTR) nameserver (ns) subsystem allowed local clients to perform an unbounded number of lookups, potentially leading to a denial of service. The issue was fixed by limiting the maximum number of lookups globally to 64. This fix prevents malicious local clients from flooding the system with NEW_LOOKUP messages over the same socket. The vulnerability affects multiple specific Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-136.136 and certain exact versions listed. The CVSS score is 5.5 (medium severity) with impact limited to availability. A patch is available and should be applied.
